- Fair or easily burned skin
- Blue, green or hazel eyes
- Red or blonde hair
- Extensive freckling
- Outdoor occupation or history of extensive sun exposure
- Family history of skin cancer
- Personal history of skin cancer
- Older age
- Longer duration of immunosuppression
- Infections of the skin with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is the virus responsible for warts on the skin
